Honorary Alumna Recognition

Denise Welch Holloway ’23

WHEREAS, Denise Welch Holloway came to Wesleyan College in 1998 and has served with distinction as administrative assistant to four successive presidents -- Nora Kizer Bell, Ruth Austin Knox, Vivia L. Fowler, and Meaghan Blight; and

WHEREAS, Denise’s service to Wesleyan has far exceeded her job description as she has shared her myriad talents with grace, style, and diplomacy; and

WHEREAS, she has guided and assisted in the refurbishment and decoration of Taylor Hall, Burden Parlor, Porter House, Bradley House, the Candler Building, and Pierce Chapel; and WHEREAS,  she has graciously welcomed and coordinated the visits of numerous dignitaries and celebrities to campus over the years, including Jane Goodall, Queen Noor of Jordan, Suze Orman, Jeanne Kirkpatrick, and others; and

WHEREAS, Denise has served as Wesleyan’s liaison to the Cherry Blossom Festival since 1999, receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Cherry Blossom Festival/Keep Macon Bibb Beautiful Commission in 2019; and

WHEREAS,  she serves as Wesleyan’s liaison with Georgia Women of Achievement, lending her expertise to the planning and execution of that organization’s annual induction ceremony on Wesleyan’s campus; and

WHEREAS, she has for a quarter century and in countless ways demonstrated her devotion to Wesleyan and its people through her tireless and seemingly around the clock efforts to plan and coordinate campus events, produce breathtaking floral arrangements, maintain order amidst chaos, solve problems with her soothing manner, and generally set a standard for flawless execution and warm hospitality in everything she does; and

WHEREAS, we recognize that what we have come to identify as “the Wesleyan Way” of doing things – simply, beautifully, elegantly – is perhaps more accurately “Denise’s Way”; and

WHEREAS, Denise embodies the “true, faithful, and loyal” characteristics of the Wesleyan Woman.

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Wesleyan College Alumnae Association, this 22nd day of April, 2023, does hereby declare Denise Welch Holloway to be an Honorary Alumna of Wesleyan College.
