Self-Designed

Wesleyan's self-designed INTERDISCIPLINARY major is the ultimate way to academically express yourself!

Students with the motivation and initiative to pursue a unique and creative program of study are encouraged to design their own major. This major option allows the flexibility to combine two or more separate disciplines into an integrated, coherent program of study that meets all of Wesleyan’s traditional academic rigor. Whether you are impassioned to study a particular topic or struggling to fit yourself into an existing box, the faculty advisors at Wesleyan College will help you think outside that box and see connections within our curriculum to make the right fit just for you.

Meet Brooke Bosley '16

Brooke Bosley smiles for the camera

Brooke was prepared to attend a state university after high school and pursue a degree related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). However, during the college search process, she learned that graduates of women’s colleges are more likely to attend graduate school and succeed in the traditionally male dominated STEM fields. As a result, she visited Wesleyan and says, “Wesleyan seemed like a perfect fit for me.”

Brooke decided to create a self-designed interdisciplinary major in integrated digital media. “I explored a wide range of subjects and gained valuable experiences that would not have been available to me in the engineering program.” She also earned a double minor in mathematics and communication.

Brooke held two summer internships at Georgia Tech, and was accepted into the digital media master’s program there.
