Equestrian Center for Wesleyan Students

Wesleyan's award-winning equestrian program competes in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) in the hunt seat and western disciplines against schools that include Clemson University, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern University, University of South Carolina, Lander University, and Converse College. Wesleyan equestrian team members have competed in post-season competitions including Regional Finals, Western Semi Finals, and Nationals.

Wesleyan joined the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) in 2019 and added dressage to its team competition making it the only school in Georgia competing in IDA competitions. With just three team riders at their first IDA Show, Wesleyan was the third-place team and the Reserve Champion High Point Team, putting the Wolves in the running to earn regional standings. Two Wesleyan equestrians qualified for IDA nationals in their first year of dressage competition.

Team members have been recognized with awards including receiving the Jon Conyers Scholarship, the USHJA/IHSA Sportsmanship Award for Zone 5, and being named to IHSA All-Academic Team. Understanding that academics come first, athletics second, and extracurricular activities third, the over-all equestrian team GPA for spring semester 2020 was 3.75.

Wesleyan offers a minor in equine assisted therapy. Equine assisted therapies differ from therapeutic riding in that the therapy setting is conducted on the ground rather than in the saddle, and the horse is part of a three-pronged therapy team (mental health specialist, equine specialist, and the horse). Please visit the EAT course catalog for additional information on the program.
