College Town Film Series: "Women of the Night: A Film Noir Exploration"
#2 - Thursday, February 1, 7:30PM

Douglass Theatre, Downtown Macon
The second film in the series is Carl Franklin's 1995 “Devil in a Blue Dress.”
The series is sponsored by Wesleyan College, Middle Georgia State University, and Mercer University. Students at those schools can see the films for free if they bring their college ID. M'kaila gets an "F" in Life by Sharmaine Fisher - M'kaila Jongwe learns the hard way that it's hard to hide things from your parents - especially when one of them is a teacher at your school.

Chill Day by Ashley Darby - A casual conversation between old friends reveals life changing circumstances and intense issues that cannot be easily resolved.

I AIN'T YOU by D'Maya Kirkland - A quirky girl uses her musical knowledge and the help of her music class to give a bully a piece of her mind.

Cost of admission: $2.00 or a donation of a pet treat or toy. Proceeds will benefit the Macon Animal Shelter. 

Kris Carlisle American Preludes Concert

The American Evolution: Piano Preludes is a project by Berry College Piano Professor Dr. Kris Carlisle. His CD recording, which contains a fantastic collection of contemporary piano preludes by some of the most talented composers of our time, has been awarded the Silver Medal by the Global Music Awards. Free and open to the public.

Georgia Women of Achievement Induction Ceremony

2018 inductees include: Ludie Clay Andrews, the first African American registered  nurse in Georgia; Susie Baker King Taylor, founder of three schools for African American children and adults; and Mamie George S. Williams, the first female and the first African American on the National Committee of the Republican party. GWA honorees have left an indelible imprint on the State of Georgia and its citizens. From artists to authors, scientists, politicians, educators and athletes, more than 80 women have been honored since it's founding in 1992. Free and open to the public.

Brasil Guitar Duo, a 2006 Concert Artists Guild International Competition winner, has been hailed by Classical Guitar magazine for its "maturity of musicianship and technical virtuosity."  Duo members Joao Luiz and Douglas Lora met in Sao Paulo as teenage guitar students and have been performing together for nearly two decades. The duo's programming features a seamless blend of traditional and Brazilian works, resulting in a global touring schedule and a growing catalogue of critically acclaimed recordings.
